Board Opportunity Fund Grants
About the Board Opportunity Fund
The Board Opportunity Fund (BOF) is a funding initiative established by the UC Santa Cruz Foundation in January 2008 to provide seed funds for short-term campus projects. These funds support initiatives that align with the university’s academic priorities and offer unique opportunities to advance strategic projects. The Foundation accepts proposals from UC Santa Cruz faculty, staff, departments, colleges and registered students. Projects funded by the BOF serve as incentives for further fundraising efforts and contribute to raising awareness and visibility for the campus.
How to apply
UC Santa Cruz faculty, staff, departments, colleges, and registered student groups with approval from senior leadership may apply for a Board Opportunity Fund (BOF) grant. Proposals must demonstrate how an award would provide incentive for further fundraising or serve as a vehicle for raising awareness and visibility for UC Santa Cruz. Proposals also require sponsorship by a current trustee. Applicants may apply with our Trustee sponsor and the Foundation office will seek to identify one.
To ensure full consideration, please review the application terms and checklist of requirements for submission.
Review Time: Completed applications may take up to 8 weeks for a decision.
Application terms
- BOF proposals must demonstrate how the award will incentivize further fundraising efforts or serve as a means to enhance awareness and visibility for UC Santa Cruz.
- Approval from academic or student affairs senior leadership (Deans, College Provosts, or Vice Chancellors) and sponsorship by a Foundation Trustee/BOF Committee Member are prerequisites for application consideration. In the event a Trustee sponsor is not identified upon submission, the Foundation office will actively seek one out.
- Proposals with a focus on travel and/or symposiums will undergo specific review to ascertain how a BOF award would contribute to heightened fundraising success or strategically elevate awareness and visibility for UC Santa Cruz.
- BOF funds will not be disbursed to the campus division for proposals contingent upon external events or actions until all stipulated contingencies are met.
- Utilization of BOF funds is typically expected to occur within the calendar year of receipt.
- Recipients of BOF funding must submit a final written report, inclusive of an expense summary, within 12 months of fund receipt, detailing the grant’s utilization. Any unused funds will be returned to the Foundation.
